Unless your taking it in concentrated tablets or eating lots of curry you might be at a loss for ways to get this orange colored root into your diet on a daily basis. This golden beverage is balanced with aromatic spices and the adaptogenic herb ashwagandha. Add in a little fat for absorption and you've got a delightful beverage that will support your bodies detoxification pathways, ease your mind and warm your body.
Turmeric is tropical plant in the ginger family that is traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine and the textile industry for dying cloth. Turmeric root can be juiced, grated raw into dished and most commonly dried and pulverized into a powder.
Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. Adaptogenic herbs work to modulate the bodies responses to internal and external stimuli such as stress, anxiety, insomnia and environmental toxicity assisting a balanced physiology.
If you enjoy golden milk like I do, preparing this mixture in bulk will cut down preparation time every time you make it. There are many ingredients and I found that making a bulk mixture of the golden milk powder much easier as I am less likely to forget ingredients and more likely to make it regularly!
Making a bulk batch of golden milk powder:
1 Cup Cinnamon Powder
1 Cup Turmeric Powder
1/2 Cup Ashwagandha Powder
1/4 Cup Cardamom Powder
1/4 Cup Nutmeg Powder
1/4 Cup Ginger Powder
1/4 Cup Ground Back Pepper
Combine the powders in a large bowl. Sift the combined powder through a wire stainless steel strainer to remove any clumps and store in an air tight glass jar.
To prepare one serving of Golden Milk:
1 cup organic whole milk, or unsweetened nut milk
1 heaping teaspoon of golden milk powder
1 teaspoon honey, preferably raw
1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
stove top sauce pan
Add milk to the saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Vigorously whisk in the teaspoon of golden milk powder to incorporate any clumps. Simmer for 5-10 minutes or until the milk is a desired temperature. Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly. Pour into a drinking mug, stir in honey, ghee or coconut oil.
Drink warm and enjoy!
